Bruno Debon is a former art photographer who turned to farming in 2010. Along with 2 hectares of old vines in the Provençal hamlet of Chateaudouble, Bruno has nearly 2500 apple trees in 6 varieties and sells apples, apple juice, and compotes to a local clientele.

His previous training as a photographer (Bruno attended the prestigious French photography school in Arles before a career showing in French galleries) deeply informs his view of winemaking. Bruno’s wines reflect his daily observation of the natural world in this particular corner of Provence – we are in the tree-lined canyons here, far up above the glitzy beaches of Cannes and St. Tropez.

The wines freely express this wild, inland Provençal terroir, but are also expertly crafted. Bruno’s prior experience collaborating with more experienced winemakers over the last decade has paid off, especially time with his old friend Cyril Fhal of Clos de la Rouge Gorge – one of the pioneers of natural winemaking in the Roussillon.

The result is honest, straightforward wine that is simply a pleasure to drink, especially on a hot summer day. There is such a small amount produced each year, and Bruno is no longer undiscovered (even Michelin-starred restaurants on the Côte d’Azur restaurants are featuring his wines!), so we are thrilled to be able to showcase Bruno’s wines in the United States.
