Romain and Damien are fourth-generation winemakers and, as in most winemaking families, have collected vines throughout Chablis over the years. They farm 29 hectares comprising Village, Premier Cru and some prized Grand Cru holdings (small plots in Vaudésir, Barchots and Les Clos!).

The diversity of plots give them a broad palette to work with, but there is a singular identity found throughout the domaine's bottlings. Romain and Damien let the fruit and terroir talk first — this is open, expressive and refreshing Chablis, a far cry from the timid, lean and heavily sulfured bottles too often seen these days.

The brothers are also almost now wholly in organic farming. Organic viticulture was scarcely seen in Chablis during the last century as the famous appellation rose to become synonymous with French white wine around the world. Herbicides and chemical applications were favored over dynamic farming practices. It was still the case nearly two decades ago when Romain and Damien, working at their father Pascale's winery and négociant business, convinced him to let them organically farm a small plot of the family vineyards.

When their father sold in 2015, the brothers were able to take their vision to the forefront and transformed the remaining family vine holdings into a new winery — Domaine de l’Enclos — and are now helping to lead the organic revolution in Chablis!

We first encountered their wines pre-Covid at Mi-Fugue, Mi-Raisin, one of our favorite Paris wine shops. Enclos was still flying under the radar for the last couple of years even after a big article on the brothers in La Revue de Vin de France. But the secret's out -- we’re so excited to introduce them to our retail drinkers and on trade in the Washington DC market.
